Orange County And Artificial Turf

Orange County is an area in California that is known for citrus production.  It is also one of the most sought after places to live in the country due to the fact that the weather is able to sustain the production of fruit from fruit trees, essentially meaning that it is nearly perfect all your long.  It rarely gets too hot or cold, and because of continual warm temperatures year round people have come to know it as a desirable area.  Residents of Orange County will almost always participate in the tradition of growing plants in the area, mostly in the form of their landscaping which will feature palm trees and green grasses.  One of the aspects of the growing of these types of plants is that they generally could not exist in the area without man's intervention, meaning that there is not enough rainfall yearly to keep them healthy.  The only way they survive is through people planting them and then continually watering them with artificial irrigation systems, which means that without the artificial source of water they will almost always wither and die.

People in Orange County love their lawns, and spend great amounts of time and money to keep them lush and beautiful.  This will usually mean providing up to 55 gallons of water to their lawn for every square foot of grass each and every year.  On top of these costs is the care and maintenance, which either must be done by the home owner or paid for.  While these costs may me manageable for most home owners in the area, the question of if you should do it comes to mind.  Just because you can afford to continually water your lawn and keep it healthy, should you be doing it?

Orange County is in the middle of a severe drought, and goes through a drought every few years.  During these times, the city makes it illegal to provide enough water to your lawn to keep it healthy, due to the fact that water reserves drop below safe levels.  The city has an obligation to assure clean drinking water for all residents and their animals, and when that cannot be assured because the levels have dropped too low, they must create conservation by restricting water waste and encouraging water saving.  This is why the installation of artificial turf in Orange County is encouraged.  For those residents who cannot ever see a lawn without green grass, the removal of living grass and replacing it with synthetic grass solves the issue.  By having your grass not need any water in order to look great, you are participating in the conservation effort and saving money every year on water and care.  Artificial turf makes sense for Orange County, have you got yours yet?
