Backyard Putting Greens For 2018

For avid golfers, one of the best ways that you can improve your home area is by installing a backyard putting green. While the obvious benefits of being able to practice your putting without leaving the house goes without saying, it also should be taken into consideration that a backyard putting green is generally eco-friendly as long as you do not attempt to utilize real living grass in it's construction. Because of no necessity of watering, it may qualify for rebates and could be included in many of the conservation programs that benefit home owners in California due to the drought. Even though you are improving the value of your home with the installation, it is still viewed as beneficial to the community through the water it will be saving. For this reason, you may be able to qualify for cost savings on the installation itself while also being a good steward of the environment. For golfers, they may only be concerned about the drastic improvements to your short game that youa re going to see by being able to practice far more often, but if you can also help the community at the same time then it is a win for everyone involved.

The backyard golf course or putting green is generally constructed from a specialized form of artificial turf that is cut closer than usual, and installed in a way that provides a tighter surface.  The ground is more appropriately shaped for the ball to roll, and the underfill is compacted tighter than it typically would be to create a spongy feel.  These things will allow for the ball to roll in a more realistic fashion that you would get on an actual course, and thus improve your game due to the real world situation that you are practicing within. You can get a better sense of pitch and imperfections in the surface, as well as the amount of pressure you will need to apply to cover the distance to the cup. Basically it is the same practice that you would get on the course, only it is in your back yard.

The drawbacks to backyard putting greens have always been that after the sun goes down there is essentially a difficulty in judging distance because of the shadows that are created by typical landscape lighting. Landscape lighting is designed to be subtle and create shadows for dramatic effect, which is the opposite of what is necessary on a putting green.  For this reason, a growing trned among backyard putting green owners is to install specialized post lighting around the green, so as to light it as if it were daytime.  This allows for practice any time of the day or night, and will provide you with many additional hours of play every day.

On new constructions, mention to the installers that you would like putting green lighting installed so the wires can be run under the course. If you have an existing green it can be retrofit without disturbing the ground by running the wires around the green.  Either way, a perfectly lit putting green in your back yard is going to improve your game and your home values at the same time.
