Do Your Part And Save Money Too

On the surface, Orange County looks lush and green.  As you drive past well manicured lawns and landscaping with tropical plants, you would probably get the impression that we live in an area that is not more of a desert climate than a tropical forest.  This is actually the case, and the majority of plants that are presented in yards like these would not be able to survive here without human intervention.  While the weather is prefect nearly year round to support plant growth of species like these, the water amounts necessary to do it fall short, which essentially means that these types of plants cannot grow here naturally.  This includes the majority of the grass lawns that we see in the area, that would not be able to grow as thick and green as we currently see them.  In typical times there is no issue and the simple delivery of water ever day through sprinklers allows the grass lawns to thrive, however in times of drought where there is not enough water in reserve to assure that humans in the area will have enough to drink, your lawn takes a back seat.  Watering your lawn enough to keep it green and healthy during drought periods is considered wasteful, which is why we see so many lawns currently turning brown or even dying completely.  It certainly hurts to see your investment go down the drain, but people are more important than grass.

One step that many people are taking is to remove the grass and replace it with synthetic turf.  The plastic product is now so realistic that many people have a hard time noticing the difference, usually spotting fake grass only because it looks "too perfect." When synthetic grass is properly installed, it will actually feel exactly like real grass as well, because if installed with the correct underfill and staking arrangements it will be soft and cushioned just like real grass will.  The ability to not only mimic grass but to actually improve upon the real thing is causing many people to consider taking the funds that would be allocated into repairing their lawns from the damage they undertook last year and instead allocating those funds toward synthetic grass installation.  Because artificial turf needs no watering or landscaping, the money that is saved monthly in landscape fees and water bills can many times pay for the installation in only a few years, ultimately making it a wise investment for those looking to improve their property.  No matter how you look at it, there is no way to predict if the drought will continue.  You very well might spend money on grass that ultimately dies within a few months as a result, so isn't it a far better idea to take that money and invest in something that will not be effected by drought conditions?
